The Individual Tour Cycling Holiday staying in a
characteristic 16th century manor house with pool
Thinking
about the Algarve most people think of crowded beaches.
However only more and more people know there is another Algarve as
well, with deserted beaches and an unspoiled nature
which is covered with
umbrella pines,
cork oak trees and “medronheiros”.
Mexilhoeira Grande is a small and authentic village,
1500 meters straight of the coast.
(see map) When you head north you are in the
untouched interior of Portugal.
1000 meter
south from the village you will find the nature
protected area Ria de Alvor. Flamingos are living here
in wintertime. You can also walk & cycle around the lagoon,
visit salt pans and sand banks where local
fishers find their shellfish.
In this area a
nature conservation organisation will inform you
about the importance of the Ria de Alvor.
You will stay in an
authentic Portuguese village near the coast. This 16th
century guesthouse has all modern comfort you wish.
From this guesthouse six routes are well written out.
You can choose between cycling to cities like Portimão
and Lagos, or to go to the mountains or a fresh water lake. These
routes are able to do for people with some experience
with cycling. All routes are
described by difficulty grade. Every route is 40 -
60 kilometers. In general most of our guests cycle 2
hours in the morning, and 2 hours in the afternoon,
depending on temperature, level of fitness and speed.
You will stay in a 400 year old manor house in a
double room with a private bathroom. During your
stay we have booked for you two dinners in a local
tavern. The guesthouse
has a swimming pool in a cosy patio garden where its
great to relax after a day cycling.
Here you can “come home”
after a short trip or intensive cycling day. Relax in the
communal room with a nice glass of wine, next to the
fireplace. Or make a stroll through the village, and
have a drink in one of the small Portuguese bars where
all the locals gather after their working day.
The
village has 4 good, but small restaurants with great
local food. Fresh fish, shellfish from the Ria de Alvor,
cataplanas and local meat dishes are served every day of
the week. Besides 3 small supermarkets for your daily
groceries you´ll find a postoffice & bakery. The
guesthouse is situated on the main square in the centre
opposite the church and has a fully equipped kitchen at
your disposal.
In this
cycling week you combine some great tour cycling, while
you explore the Portuguese culture and nature. Prices
start at € 399.00 p.p. including a good All Terrain
Bike, 2 meals, and airport transfers; for a full week! Book here >>
