CANOE TRIPS on the calm inland estuary lagoon of Ria de Alvor

LAGOON TRIP

You will start your canoe trip from the small fishing village of Alvor. The warm and quiet estuary lagoon from the `Ria de Alvor´ is the perfect place for swimming in the summer and to spot flamingos in the winter. The lagoon is tidal, this means there will be clean (swimming) water every day and all year round with just little current. The estuary lagoon from the Ria de Alvor is a nature protected area, especially known for it´s variety of emigration birds and it´s wetlands. Since this tidal inland water is shallow and has sandy bottoms, the conditions are perfect for leisure, canoeing and swimming. In the summer there will be almost every day a strong NW wind starting around 15.00/16.00 hr. The mornings however are quiet and with just little winds. Therefore we offer these trips from 10.00 - 13.00 hr.

RIVER TRIP

After a short explanation about how to paddle & steer with the canoe, the guide will leave the harbour of Alvor and start to paddle along the waterfront promenade up the river. Now the group follows the meandering river up to the village of Mexilhoeira Grande. The river gets smaller and birds like stilts and storks are offen seen. When the river is crossing under the EN 125 we throw out th ancher and walk 50 meters to Portugal & Spain´s biggest Palm Centre "Flor do Sol". Here we offer you a free 30 minutes guide tour on the Palm nursery. Here you can also drink or eat something in the on-site Pizzeria.

The experienced multilingual guide will canoe with you and will head for a deserted sand bank in the middle of the lagoon. Here we have built up a volley ball net and you can also enjoy a round of beach tennis. There are always enough rare and beautiful shells to find. You might also just relax and get some tan on the sandbank, while you watch little Portuguese fishing boats passing by, bringing home their catch of the day.

You will canoe in a modern hard-plastic Canadian canoe with place for maximum 2 adults and 1 child under 10 years. There is enough place to bring a bag with towels or some food and drinks. The maximum group size is 20 people. This trip is also for non-experienced participants and ideal for children!

For your safety and comfort we have a little Portuguese fishing boat as support boat availably. In case one of you wants to join with the support boat, please book a seat in this charming motor boat in advance.

Swimsuit, sun cream and water are recommended.

All year round every Friday & Sunday morning from 10.00 - 13.00 hr.
In the summer months from mid June till mid September every day from 10.00 - 13.00 hr
Adults: € 22.50 p.p. Children less than 10 years accompanied with 2 adults pay only € 5.00 p.p.
Inc maritime license, sports guide, support boat, good canoe & swim vest (life-jacket for non-swimmers & children/babies), beach games.
